In recent years, as environmental protection policies have continued to tighten, industrial wastewater treatment has become a critical challenge that companies must address. Take the production of carbonless copy paper as an example: its coating wastewater, which contains high concentrations of organic matter, pigments, and adhesives, is difficult to treat and poses a serious threat to the environment. Against this backdrop, significant progress has been made in technologies for treating coating wastewater from carbonless copy paper.

In response to the characteristics of coating‑industry wastewater, researchers have developed a “high‑efficiency coagulation–A/O (anoxic/oxic) combined process,” which leverages the synergistic effects of chemical coagulation and biological degradation to significantly enhance treatment efficiency. This process not only effectively removes COD, BOD, and suspended solids but also reduces treatment costs by optimizing coagulant dosing and biochemical treatment conditions. Furthermore, advanced tertiary treatment technologies—such as Fenton oxidation and an ozone–nanofiltration membrane combination—are employed to further improve effluent quality, bringing it into compliance with industrial water‑use standards and enabling the reuse of treated wastewater.

These technological breakthroughs have not only addressed the challenge of treating wastewater from carbonless copy paper coatings but have also provided robust support for the paper industry’s green transformation. As environmental regulations continue to tighten, companies must steadily increase their investment in R&D, driving innovation and deployment of advanced wastewater‑treatment technologies to achieve a win‑win outcome that balances economic and environmental benefits.
